When you’re hauling thousands of dollars’ worth of merchandise daily, the absolute last thing you want is for something to go wrong and for said merchandise to become severely damaged. There are obvious risks when it comes to any merchandise, and sometimes there is just nothing you can do to stop damages, but here are three kinds of merchandise that you should take special care with when shipping. For the most part, this is because of their vulnerability but, in the case of our third item, also because of what they could do to other items you are shipping.

1. Glass

Now, this might seem like an obvious place to start, and, honestly, it is, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be mentioned. Companies, like Cover Glass in Southern California, offering big glass products for relatively low prices, need to save money somewhere, and more often than you’d think, that money comes out of their packaging budget. When transporting big packages with only a small amount of padding, you’ll need to be careful with how your truck is packed if you want to avoid shaking that glass to pieces within a few miles.

2. Electronics

There are very few things more expensive than electronic equipment, and in general, if you are shipping electronics, they are going to be of high value. With the high cost and relatively vulnerable nature of many tech products, you want to be absolutely sure that you pack and ship them in the safest way possible. This is for two reasons.

First of all, the chances of damages to the electronics are greatly reduced when you take your time to make sure they don’t shake or tumble around while you are shipping them, which means you’re unlikely to have a problem.

Secondly, if you do have a problem with damaged goods, you can point out that you took every measure available to protect the product but, sadly, damages are sometimes unavoidable. This should hopefully protect you from any potential backlash from the damages too.

3. Sauce

Now, there are a number of reasons for this, but one of the best ways to explain why you should be so very careful when shipping sauce is with an example.

Imagine a big bottle of ketchup – the huge plastic ones which are used commercially; consider how heavy it is and how much sauce you’ve got in the bottle. Now think about how heavy a crate of those bottles is going to be, one with maybe a hundred or more bottles packed in.

Then imagine the mess all of that sauce is going to make if the crate falls and smashes. Think about how it will soak into everything else you are shipping and how quickly just one crate smashing could ruin an entire truck’s worth of merchandise. Chances are you’ve got a pretty good idea now why you should take extra special care when you pack that sauce in.
